Renewing Your Texas LTC

You renew your Texas license to carry every five years. You simply renew it online on the Texas DPS website, no class needed to renew. After your initial class you will never have to take another class again. this means that even if you move to another State you can still renew your Texas carry permit online from another State. You do not have to be a Texas resident. Texas will issue a carry permit to legal residents of all 50 States. We have direct links and instructions on how to renew your license here.

Who Qualifies

Texas is a “shall issue” State. That means everyone is qualified to get a Texas LTC. All you have to do is take the class. Texas can not turn anyone down for the Texas LTC unless you have a disqualifying criminal history. When you apply for a Texas permit to carry they will run a background check. You must be legally able to purchase and own a firearm under federal and State law. A felony conviction will disqualify you from getting a license to carry in Texas. You can not have a domestic violence conviction either, even if it was a misdemeanor. Other class A and B misdemeanor convictions must be five years old. Class C misdemeanors will not count against you.
